Training Biography

Basic Surgical Training in Sheffield and Merseyside.
Higher Surgical Training in Yorkshire. Experience in ‘Enhanced Recovery After Surgery’ in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Awarded the Association of Surgeons of GB & I medal for the outstanding performance in the Inter-Collegiate Examination in General Surgery (Colorectal) in 2002.

Colorectal Practice

Laparoscopic (‘keyhole’) and open surgery for major colorectal disease including bowel cancer, neuroendocrine tumours, diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel disease
Endoscopy including diagnostic colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and gastroscopy, plus polypectomy.
Proctology: management of conditions affecting the anus and rectum including haemorrhoids, anal fissures, anal fistulae, pilonidal sinus disease, pruritus ani, pre-malignant perianal conditions

Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust since 2002. Working fulltime and dealing with a wide range of elective and emergency colorectal disease as well as abdominal wall hernias.

  • Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative colitis)
  • Synchronous resection of bowel cancer and liver metastases
  • Intestinal failure
  • Large / complex abdominal wall hernias
  • Radiation enteritis (intestine damaged by radiotherapy)
  • Pilonidal sinus disease
